WORSHIP The desire to worship is part of each human whether it is acknowledged or not by man. We are created by God with the sole purpose of glorifying and enjoying Him forever. Yet, most of the time, we tend to look to other things and places for our happiness and enjoyment of life.
At Riveroaks we place our worship of God as the primary way of praising Him and expressing that praise as a congregation. Emphasis on the reading of the Old and New Testaments (New International Version pew Bibles provided), the use of the Trinity Hymnal for congregational singing, and group study of the Scriptures are vital to Riveroaks worship. What we believe directly affects our worship. We believe that God is gracious and faithful to His people not simply as individuals but as families in successive generations according to His Covenant promises. We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. The PCA has made a firm commitment on the doctrinal standards which have been significant in presbyterianism since 1645, namely the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. These doctrinal standards express the specifics of the Calvinistic (Reformed) tradition.
Among the doctrines of the Westminster Standards and of the Reformed tradition is the unique authority of the Bible. The reformers based all of their claims on “sola scriptura,” the Scriptures alone. We believe that the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. It is the revelation of God’s truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.
