Compassionate Service

Equip women to serve one another and the church community through ministries of compassion

One of the three areas in which WIC seeks to help women grow in their walk with God is to provide opportunities for compassionate service. The Mercy, Nursery and Sister Church/Local Outreach committees help organize the work.

Mercy leaders coordinate participants who serve the church family whenever needs arise. These needs include medical emergencies, childcare issues, transportation, births, or deaths.  The entire church family is divided by Care Group, Shepherding Group and neighborhood. Mercy Coordinators contact members to help meet a need of someone nearby or who may belong to a common group. Meals are most often needed, but occasionally it is child care, housecleaning or transportation.  Meals are most often coordinated via email, and  Take Them a Meal is used some as well.  Women also visit those members who are shut-in and cannot come to church often.

Riveroaks' nursery is supported by both paid staff and rotating volunteers. Coordinators schedule volunteers to play and care for our little ones during church services. The nursery is also offered during choir practice, Wednesday evening activities and morning Bible study.

Women have also sought opportunities to help inner city sister churches as they carry out their programs. They may be after-school Bible studies, Vacation Bible School, classes for parents of newborns, and other activities.  Many women are also involved with local outreach ministries.
