VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Riveroaks Reformed Presbyterian Church annually holds its Vacation Bible School in June. Several years ago VBS challenged its participants to follow “Christian” on the road to salvation and ultimately “heaven” using materials especially written for Riveroaks based on “Pilgrim’s Progress,” the John Bunyan classic.

They began in the City of Destruction, Christian met companions throughout his journey exemplifying the struggles all believers face in their walk with the Lord. The “pilgrims” even experienced a day at Vanity Fair, a picture of the world without Christ. One of the most special days featured the “pilgrims” dropping their backpacks (burdens) at the foot of a large cross. Using daily journals, organized outdoor recreation, and lively singing, this VBS provided a fun-filled, summertime experience. Students and teachers alike were directed by God’s infallible Word, the
Bible, on a simulated journey to the Celestial City (Heaven).

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword,
it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow;
it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12

“Pilgrim’s Progress” VBS Materials were originated by Deborah Cummings, Tartan Press.
Riveroaks gears its VBS for children who have completed grade K-5 grade. Why not look ahead to next June when your children can expect to enjoy a fantastic week of fun and discovery!
