Discipleship

At Riveroaks our desire is to obey Christ’s last command from The Great Commission where we hear our Savior’s clear call for all Christians to be disciple-makers: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19).” (ESV)

Like Jesus modeled for his own 12 disciples, we endeavor to imitate his example by building solid followers (disciples) of Jesus Christ.  RRPC seeks to disciple believers through a multitude of ways focused on a transfer of Biblical truth (Christ-centered preaching and teaching) and personal experience of life within the relationships of our covenant community.  We hope to ever expand the capacity of our members to learn of Christ not only in formal teaching settings, but also in the day-in day-out opportunities of a Christ-centered life-on-life pouring of our lives into each other.  Our model clearly is shown by Paul’s example in I Thessalonians 2:8 where he says, “So being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.” (ESV)

The goal then of this process of developing more fully-committed followers of Jesus Christ is to build a fellowship of ever-maturing and reproducing Christian disciples who grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ, serving the Lord through outreach and service to others and applying the truth of the Gospel in every area of life.

By God’s grace, we know that the family institution is the primary means that God sovereignly brings about the discipleship of his flock; therefore, our fellowship at RRPC endeavors to support our families through serving the needs of our men, women and children.  A primary focus of our church’s Strategic Plan is being developed to specifically target the men of our church, for we realize that strong husbands, fathers, and leaders in our church is the foundation for all that we do in our church body.  Opportunities for Christian growth exist for each of these groups through our Christian Education curriculum, Women in the Church, Men’s Ministry, and a variety of family and group service projects and ministry endeavors.  Multiple small groups exist for women and men to encourage the transfer of truthful teaching and life stories, thus providing the exhortation and accountability we all need as we travel along the path of serving our Lord.
