If you have a question about the upcoming Community Groups, you are probably not alone. During our Life Together class on
November 3, the Community Group Committee detailed how the groups will work and also answered your questions. If you missed that class, be sure to listen to it via our
Sermon Audio section. Below you will find a basic set of Frequently Asked Questions as well as a form where you can submit your own.
When will the groups start?
Community Groups will begin meeting on January 9, and the first "season" will extend through April 10.
When during the week will the groups meet?
Community Groups will meet on Sunday evenings, in place of the Sunday evening worship service
Does that mean we no longer observe the whole Lord's Day?
No. This is not a change away from worship. Rather, it's a change in the location of worship. Sunday evenings will remain a time where the Riveroaks body gathers together for worship, but the venue is changing to each others' homes.
Will we ever again have the Sunday evening worship service?
Yes. We will continue to have the Sunday evening worship service on the first Sunday of each month. Every other Sunday evening in the month will be for Community Groups.
How do I know which group I am in?
We have divided the greater Memphis area into 8 regions, and you will be placed in the group of your home region.
May I request to be in a group outside of my region?
Yes. While the groups will be assigned geographically by default, we want to accommodate those who have specific requests. Our main goal is that you are involved.
What about childcare?
This is a popular and important question. The basic answer is that you need to know two things: 1) Each group will be able to work out a system that works best for them. 2) Each group will be given the tools they need to be able to incorporate children into the community group worship.
Will a group be meeting at the church?
Yes. Actually, there will be two groups meeting at the church. The two groups will combine for a time of singing in the Sanctuary and will then split into their Community Groups for a time of prayer and discussion.
When and how do I sign-up?
Sign-ups will begin in mid-November. You will be able to sign-up online or by filling out the sign-up card that will be inserted in the Sunday morning bulletin.
